Internal vs. External

In most of our Western traditions, the Divine and the Heavenly realms are seen as coming from outside and above us. So our connection is seen as external. Other traditions say to look inside. So our connection is seen as internal. As with most things, it is both and probably even more. If you have been raised with the view that our connection is external, then the meditation of entering the Holy of Holies within yourself can begin a very significant shift.

When we focus on the external, we are subject to being affected by many things. In a sense, the energy or our awareness has to penetrate many layers. Keeping our awareness on the external is very distracting and can lead us to ignoring the internal. Western society has taken this to an extreme. The physical and external world has become very, very distractive, to the point where many of us do not know what we are really feeling. Needs have been almost completely overwhelmed by wants and manipulation of wants as well as emotions, actions, and thoughts has taken over much of our culture.

When we focus on the internal, we are subject to neglecting what is important in the external. An aspect of this is covered later in the workshop section on Health. However, the internal is subject to much less direct manipulation than the external. There simply is less between our awareness and our internal connection. And what is between them is less subject to outside things or manipulation.

The change to a more complete connection and to having a Soul Chakra makes this even more powerful. Making a shift from the external to the internal is the second most important and powerful concept in this workshop. (The first is connecting with our Soul Essence.) While it is probably more accurate to say that we come from both our external and our internal connection (and even more), those of us that have been highly focused for most of our lives on the external can more quickly move to being in balance by focusing on the internal. The power of this shift to the internal connection comes from being and doing, not from just the shift. Being and doing from the internal connection is what most of the workshop is about.
