Grounding the Chakras

Like balancing the chakras, there are a number of methods to ground the chakras.* This meditation is our favorite method and experience has shown that it works very well for most people. The first time you do it, use the long version. Then after that you can use the short version or, should you feel that you really need grounding, take the time to do the long version. The starting point for this meditation is your ideal place of relaxation. If you missed this part of the First Level or wish to review it, click here.

Mediation

When visualizing your energy spiraling into the ground, we recommend picking the direction - clockwise or counterclockwise (looking down) by using your intuition.

Long Version

Close your eyes, take three deep slow breaths and go to your ideal place of relaxation.

1. Allow your awareness to move all the way down to the first chakra (at the base of the spine). Feel, sense the energy of this chakra and see it gathering in a ball. Then see this ball move out in front of you and start to spiral into the ground. It continues to spiral deeper and deeper until it reaches the center of the Earth. There it merges with the energy of the earth (usually seen as a dark red) and then starts to spiral up in the opposite direction. It continues to spiral up and up until it is behind you and enters the back of the first chakra. The energy of the Earth then fills this chakra, fills it to overflowing.

2. Allow your awareness to move up to the second chakra (in the pelvic area). Feel, sense the energy of this chakra and see it gathering together in a ball. Then see this ball move out in front of you and start to spiral into the ground. It continues to spiral deeper and deeper until it reaches the center of the Earth. There it merges with the energy of the earth and then starts to spiral up in the opposite direction. It continues to spiral up and up until it is behind you and enters the back of the second chakra. The energy of the Earth then fills this chakra, fills it to overflowing.

3. Move your awareness to the third chakra (the solar plexus) and repeat the exercise.

4. Move your awareness to the fourth chakra (the heart) and repeat the exercise.

5. Move your awareness to the fifth chakra (the throat) and repeat the exercise.

6. Move your awareness to the sixth chakra (the third eye) and repeat the exercise.

7. Move your awareness to the seventh chakra (the crown of the head) and repeat the exercise.

When you have finished, say thank you, develop an attitude of gratitude, and/or say a prayer and just open your eyes.

Short Version

Close your eyes, take three deep slow breaths and go to your ideal place of relaxation.

Become aware of all seven of your chakras. Feel, sense the energy of the chakras and see this energy gathering together in a ball in each chakra. See these balls move out in front of you in a vertical line, and then start to spiral into the ground. They continue to spiral deeper and deeper until they reach the center of the Earth. There they merge with the energy of the earth (usually seen as a dark red) and then start to spiral up in the opposite direction. They continue to spiral up and up until they are behind you and enter the back of each chakra. The energy of the Earth then fills your chakras, fills them to overflowing.

When you have finished, say thank you, develop an attitude of gratitude, and/or say a prayer and just open your eyes.

* Sometimes these ways can be hazardous to our health and even painful. For example activities such as eating or smoking tobacco can be very grounding. When we are not grounded, it is possible to not pay attention to what we are doing or where we are going. When this happens, we can bump into things, like furniture. When this happens, we feel pain and pain can really ground us in the physical. So if we fail to realize that we need grounding, it can take place automatically.
